CUET Subject Selection Guide

Demystifying CUET UG 2025 Subject Choices

Selecting the wrong subject combination in your Central University Entrance Test (CUET) application is the most common reason for candidate rejection, regardless of how high they score. Universities like Delhi University (DU), BHU, and Jamia have strict eligibility criteria. Let us map out a safe selection matrix:

1. The Language Component (Section IA and IB)

  • **The Rule:** You should ideally select the language you studied in your Class 12 board exams. For most students, this is English or Hindi.
  • Score maximum in English Section IA by revising RC passages, figures of speech, vocabulary, and synonyms.

2. Domain Subjects (Section II)

  • **The DU Core Constraint:** Delhi University requires you to appear ONLY in the subjects you have passed in Class 12 boards.
  • Select up to 3 or 4 domains. For Legal Studies, Humanities, or commerce streams, ensure you align your choices with your target college requirements.
  • Leverage NCERT textbooks. CUET domains are strictly based on Class 12 NCERT curriculum.

3. The General Test (Section III)

  • Even if your dream university does not list the General Test as mandatory for your primary course, **always select it**.
  • Many premium courses (like BBS, BFIA, B.El.Ed, or B.A. Honours Programs) require the General Test. Selecting it maximizes your admission opportunities across multiple universities.

4. The Ideal Strategic Matrix

For maximum flexibility:

  • 1 Language (e.g. English)
  • 3 Domains (matching Class 12 board subjects)
  • 1 General Test
