CLAT vs AILET — Which to Prioritize?
Strategic Insights into Law School Entrances
If you are a law aspirant, you are likely preparing for both the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) and the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) for NLU Delhi. While both lead to prestigious legal careers, the exams are fundamentally different. Let us compare:
1. Exam Structure & Time Stress
- **CLAT:** 120 questions in 120 minutes. The paper is completely passage-based, requiring long-form speed reading.
- **AILET:** 150 questions in 120 minutes. Features three sections: English, Logical Reasoning (including critical and analytical), and Current Affairs. AILET is significantly more time-pressed and features shorter, trickier questions.
2. Logical Reasoning Divergence
- CLAT logical reasoning is 100% critical reasoning (identifying arguments, logical flaws, assumptions).
- AILET logical reasoning includes heavy sections of analytical puzzles, syllogisms, and direction tests alongside critical passages.
3. The GK Focus
- CLAT current affairs require understanding depth, background context, and national/international implications of major events.
- AILET current affairs are direct, factual, and cover a wider spectrum of static GK.
Which should you prioritize?
Ideally, prepare for **CLAT first**. A strong foundation in reading speed and critical analysis acts as a massive baseline for AILET. In the final 2 months, pivot your preparation by running targeted analytical logic drills and speed tests for NLU Delhi.
